Online shop vs company website: what to choose in 2026
· 1 min read

In 2026 many business owners begin with the question: “shop or website?” The answer depends on how you sell: does the customer buy online right away, or do they first call, book a visit or ask for a quote?
A company website with a contact form and client panel is enough for local services (renovation, hairdressers, accounting), B2B with individual pricing, and construction and consulting firms. The start-up cost is lower, delivery is faster (often 1-2 weeks) and conversion rests on contact and trust.
An online shop makes sense when you sell repeatable products at fixed prices, ship parcels and need online payments: Vipps MobilePay and cards in Norway, BLIK and bank transfers in Poland, Stripe as a gateway. It takes more work: product photos, terms, logistics and returns. Remember the right of withdrawal (in Norway angrerett, normally 14 days) and correct price information including VAT.
Hybrid model: a company website plus an “Order online” section for selected products or vouchers. At Nettivo we design both variants. We often start with the company site and add the shop once demand is visible, which lowers risk and upfront cost.
